Frame Front End 2 Final Assembly Chassis
|
2-15-04
I was able to sneak up on the rain this morning and do some work. I got the steering connections, the stabilizer bar, and the spindles removed in about an hour. |
|
| You wanna talk about no maintenance.....this is
the left upper ctrl arm. There are absolutely no bushings left, and
the po drove around so long without them that it did the damage you see
here. This guy was a
mechanic! I'll have to replace it, can't fix that. The ball
joints are gone too.
My lil bro surprised me for my birthday....he got me new upper & lower ctrl arm bushings! Sweet! |

Here's the bolts to remove the upper control arms. Just remove these two and the whole assembly comes off. You can see some more of the damage caused by the po...... |
|
| After you remove the bolts, you have to be
careful not to lose the shims. I took the upper ctrl arm mounting
shaft from the '64 and bolted them in place here so I didn't lose the
shims.
Have you noticed the good habit I've developed? I try to put the nuts & bolts back where they originally were. I may not reuse the nuts & bolts, but I'll always know what went where. That takes a lot of discipline......not to mention patience...... |

Here's the lower control arm connection. These four nuts are attached to U-bolts that hold the lower control arm to the crossmember. Unbolt these, and the lower comes loose. |
| It's 12:00 on February 15, 2004.........TIME FOR THE DAYTONA 500!!! I hope Mark finally gets a 500 win!
