[Teardown] [Rebuild] [Parts Trucks]

This is the only pic I have of my truck when it was together.  It was restored years ago by my Uncle Winston in Sulphur, Louisiana.  After he got a job that required him to travel a good bit, my Grandfather used the truck for his everyday hauling needs.  He's the one who put the big chains across the bed; every truck I remember my Grandpa owning had those chains on it, and I plan on keeping them there.  Grandpa was a very good shadetree mechanic, and he kept the truck running like a sewing machine until he got sick and couldn't work on it anymore.  After Grandpa passed away, my Uncle hadn't messed with it in so long that several things needed a lot of work.   My Uncle drove it, as seemed right, to Grandpa's funeral, then parked it at his house to sit until he decided to do something with it.

Well, I've always wanted this truck.  Now that Grandpa was gone, it meant even more to me.  After a while, I decided to call my Uncle and ask what his plans for it were.  He had none, and I asked if he were willing to sell it to me.  He called me back about a day or two later, and said he wanted $650 for it.  After a discussion w/the boss lady, I told him ok. That weekend, my brother and I hopped in his '62 Ford Unibody with a car dolly in tow, and brought the truck home.

Well, the truck was rough.  The cab was the worst......my Uncle admitted it was rough, but he couldn't find a replacement cab when he restored it, so he patched it up as best he could and let it go.  Well, it went - quick.  Not only that, but there was a wrist pin knocking horribly in the engine.  I guess it sat too long.  It ran strong, though.  I drove it many times (felt like Grandpa and Uncle Winston were right there with me) and it never gave me any trouble (other than me getting used to the 3-on-the-tree).  The sound of that knock scared the crap out of me, though.  I didn't know how much farther that 230 would go, so I decided to park it and see about getting the engine rebuilt.  And that's where it sat for a few years.

Then, the most wonderful thing ever happened to me - besides meeting my wife; my Son was born.  After that, I began to take stock of the things I wanted to do, and the truck was foremost in my mind; I wanted the truck to be passed down to the Boy, and he pass it down to his kids, so & sf.  I set a tentative goal to have the truck restored before his first day of school so I could take him there in the truck (that's still REAL iffy).  So, just a few days after he was born, I started tearing the truck down.  And thus began the saga laid out here on this website.
